L+J Styled Winter Elopement
Believe it or not… this shoot was in the works for over a year! When I first met Kyla and Kathleen from Olive Tree Decor we both felt super inspired to plan a styled winter wedding for a fun winter project. But life got hectic and it was put on our dream list… until this past winter! We went for coffee one day and started vision boarding what we wanted to see in upcoming wedding trends and what we hope to inspire future clients with and boom - all of a sudden we are in full swing wedding planning mode.
My vision behind the shoot was simply to do something out of the norm. So to me, that meant… a elopement, bad ass tattoo’d couple, winter, dark and moody. custom everything!
To be honest, I have followed our model Lacey on instagram for years. So when I was thinking who would be perfect for this shoot, I immediately knew who I wanted to have in it. But her and her partner being from the island I knew it would be a far stretch. Im telling you guys - the world was working in my favour this day because she was crazy enough to say hell yes!
Lacey and Jordan travelled 14 hours to be my muse for the weekend. The elopement took place at Clucluz lake on Feb. 16th, 2019 (aka: one of the coldest damn days of the year). I’m not exaggerating. -28 and that did not include the windchill on the frozen lake! She was a cold one.
As Jordan helped Lacey do up the back of the wedding dress in the loft, the girls from Olive Tree Decor and I were working hard shovelling a path and setting up the tablescape and wedding arbour. The time had come to brace the cold temperatures. Taking breaks to run up to the cabin and heat up by the log fire every 30 minutes, we were able to exchange some beautiful vows, and have some AH-mazing caked by Caked by Katie!
We managed to fit in 4 hours of on and off shooting time before feeling like our fingers were going to snap off from the cold. But before we called it quits, we of course and to get some beautiful ring shots of probably the most unique ring I have ever had the pleasure of seeing (and I worked in a custom jewellery store for 6 years so that means a lot!) which was custom made by Dallas Tobin. Then what better way to end the night with a sparkler send off!
This day was truly magical. Of course, there was road bumps… like any wedding. I could get into all the dirty deets but I think this blog post would get about 10x more excessive then it already is. So for now, I’ll just leave it at that. This day was truly magical.
